Want my opinion on my song lyrics? I made a pretty long diatribe here that briefly touches on it before I ramble about something else entirely:

My lyrics are often enough hit or miss and I'll be the first to admit it. Generally speaking though, lyrics are usually the thing that I often hate least about my songs. My early lyrical influences ranged from Phil Elverum, Issac Brock, Andrew Bird, Travis Morrison, all the way to Jeff Buckley and MF DOOM. It took me a little while before I knew my limitations enough to get away with metaphors that didn't sound like word salad from a schizophrenic. I really like punning all the time and taking classic idioms and putting them in subversive contexts. Double entendres are fun to thrust into things but there honestly should be a better phrase for things having double meanings than that. Heck, what about triple meanings? Two will do but three's a party. Frankly, I like the idea of my songs more than I like any of the recordings I've ever mustered. I usually like the chords, I usually like the lyrics, I usually like the melodies, but there's often so many loose knots between all three in so many other areas that could be spiffed up to perfection in the right hands. What I mean isn't so much a crutch for lack of musical ability ala autotune in the wrong hands, moreso a pragmatic decision to focus more on songwriting skills and use my recording techniques to advertise the songs to people who might want to 'steal' them and do them service equivalent to their writing. One big long con as a recording artist, basically. I drop my music into the public domain so that other people can do my songs service, to be nice to content creators who deal with copyright detection, and, well, because I believe that copyright is useful with good intentions but most often an incredibly detrimental tool often used for censorship that is sponsored by the state regardless of merit.
